Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the Centre will decide to reconsider the minimum age of marriage for girls in india during his addressing on India’s 74th Independence Day.
The minimum age of marriage for girls, has been a controversial issue. Currently, as per law the minimum age of marriage is 21 years and 18 years for men and women respectively.The Union Ministry for Women and Child Development set up a task force On June 2,
Reason for Reconsidering of Minimum age of marriage for girls:
Because of Maternal Mortality rate and health of the women the age to be reconsider from 18 to 21.The task force which constitute by the union ministry for women and child development is to examine the matters related to age of motherhood, to reducing the Maternal Mortality Ratio and the improvement of nutritional levels among women.
The task force will also study and examine the correlation of age of marriage and motherhood and also the team will examine the health mother, medical well-being, and nutritional status of the mother, child, during pregnancy, birth and thereafter.
It will also the important factors like IMR, MMR, TFR,SRB and CSR, and will examine the possibility of increasing the age of marriage for women from the present 18 years to 21 years.

Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR)
The maternal mortality ratio (MMR) is defined as the annual number of female deaths per 100,000 live births from any cause related issue.
Total Fertility Rate (TFR)
Total Fertility Rate is also called as Total period Fertility Rate The average number of children that would be born to a woman over her lifetime.
Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB)
The normal sex ratio at birth (SRB) is about 105 male babies per 100 female babies in worldwide. In India measures the SRB is the female births per 1,000 male births, making 950 a normal SRB in India.
Child Sex Ratio (CSR)
Child sex Ratio (CSR) is defined as the number of females per thousand males in the age of 0–6 years in a total population.
